Highest Close Rates - Sport Utility Vehicles
Motor City Dealers Move SUVs

Where are dealers having the most success closing leads for sport utility vehicles? According to Dealix Dealers, it’s in and around the Motor City. Dealers in the Detroit metro area close their leads for SUVs at a higher rate than anywhere else in the U.S. Is it the dealers' skill set; the popularity of the Ford Explorer in its home town; or are consumers just more in love with SUVs in Detroit than in other part of the country? Milwaukee dealers are also having great success closing their leads for SUVs. After all, in snowy places, it makes sense to own one. So why are Miami and Houston dealers closing more SUV leads than Denver dealers?

When it comes to fueling their SUVs, Detroiters are paying about 8% below the national average for gas, so the poor fuel economy of these vehicles may be a non-issue for them. On the other hand, you’d think dealers would have a harder time selling SUVs to San Franciscans, who are paying more at the pump than anywhere else in the U.S. except Kihei, Hawai'i. (But everything is relative. San Franciscans are paying a pittance compared to their neighbors to the west - or, actually, to the Far East. Residents of Hong Kong - Hong Kongians? Hong Kongese? - are paying $5.38 per gallon!) Despite dealing with the highest gas prices in the U.S. and a stereotype for being environmentally liberal, it’s clear that San Franciscans will have their SUVs too. Maybe it’s to get up and down all those hills. Or, maybe it's just an American thing - the love affair with the SUV.

About the Study

The Dealix Vehicle Close Rate IndexSM is a weighted index based on the number of Internet sales leads that are generated from the Dealix Lead Trading PlatformSM and result in a sale.  The metro area with the highest average close rates for SUVs was given a perfect score of 1000. All subsequent close rates for  metro area in the U.S. were weighted against the leading metro area.  Primary data is derived from email and phone surveys conducted on customers that Dealix Corporation delivers to its dealer partners as Internet sales leads.  The smallest accepted sample size per metro area was 75 surveys.  This study does not intend to represent data for close rates for all vehicle sales leads. This report is brought to you by Dealix Business IntelligenceSM (DBI).
