The Ward’s e-Dealer 100 Do It Again
Setting New Records in Vehicles Sold

In the much anticipated 2004 Ward’s Dealer Business e-Dealer 100 issue, the best Internet dealers in the country set new benchmarks that are inspirational to anyone working in the auto industry. When Ward’s began its annual e-Dealer 100 ranking in 2001, the top 100 e-dealers sold 61,356 Internet-generated units.  In 2003, that number climbed to 125,198.  The combination of more consumers using the Internet in their car buying process; lead providers improving their verification, scrubbing, and delivery technologies and services; and dealers improving their overall lead handling and sales processes is resulting in an unprecedented level of success.

How Do Online Car Buyers Really Shop?

By now it’s pretty much a universal truth that the Internet is helping dealers to sell more cars. In spite of this, there are still far too many dealers who have not fully embraced the online sales channel. Some employ a half-hearted approach – they accept sales leads provided by their OEM because the leads are either free or offered at a subsidized rate; or simply because the OEM is pressuring them to start an Internet program. However, having a passive approach to the Internet opportunity may be causing these dealers to miss over half the online market for their vehicles.

AutoDealerDaily and its newly published magazine, Auto Dealer Monthly, just released their own rankings of the top Internet dealers.

Rewards were given for:

  • The 2004 Internet Dealer of the Year Award;
  • The 2004 Pre-Owned Retailer of the Year Award;
  • The Top 100 Internet Achievement Award Winners; and

Highest Close Rates by Region

Last September, we ranked the top dealerships in the Eastern, Middle, and Western United States by average close rates during the second quarter of 2003. This was a favorite article among our readers, so here it is again – the top dealerships by close rate for the first quarter of 2004.  Congratulations to all the ISPs in the dealerships that made the list.
